Aerification and Slit Seeding
To avoid any unnecessary damage, have Quality Services aerate your lawn. You'll save money combining all annual services, not to mention
the peace of mind you'll get from knowing your sprinkler system will be in the same state it was, prior to the aeration service.
Our
technicians that arrive at your home to open or close your irrigation system will mark each head with flags. The aeration crew will follow behind
the technicians within a day or two (weather permitting) and remove the flags after the aeration has been completed.
Why Aerate?
Compaction is a physical condition that slowly reduces the amount of air in the soil. Walking, playing and mowing as well as rainfall contribute
to soil compaction. Roots need oxygen to grow. As the soil becomes compacted, soil particles in the top few inches are compressed into
a tight layer and less air and water can enter the soil. The result is a weaker, thinner turf and more weeds.
Aeration will help alleviate this condition.
Aerating is the removal of small cores of from the top inches of soil to allow nutrients, water, and air
to enter the root zone. A core aerator removes soil cores rather than punch holes in the soil. The holes left in the turf become an avenue for
oxygen and water to enter. Root growth around the hole increases and plant vigor is enhanced.
Benefits from aerating include:
-
Enhanced water uptake.
-
Improved fertilizer uptake.
-
Reduced water runoff.
-
Enhanced gas exchange.
-
Enhanced thatch breakdown.
-
Enhanced heat and drought tolerance.
Aerating should be done at a time when the lawn is actively growing so that it can recover from any injury. It is best to aerate lawns in Northeast
Ohio in fall and if needed early spring. How frequently to aerate will depend on the extent of soil compaction. Heavy clay soil may need
coring every year.

Slit Sleeding
Slit Seeding
Is your lawn weak, thin or have bare spots? Do you have issues every year with the same spots in your lawn succumbing to disease, drought
or just dyeing off? The answer is slit seeding.
Slit seeding is a process of cutting shallow vertical slits in the soil and depositing seed into
the cuts. The true benefits of slit seeding come from the addition of newer, more disease, drought and wear resistant grass species. Quality
Lawn Health Services Turf grass specialists will evaluate and select the best turf species for your lawn. (link to turf selection service) Call for
